Updates for the week ending August 28, 2020

This week I took some time and produced a couple new videos.

If a tree falls in a forest, and you didn’t hear it, did it really fall?

If you’re having a successful SEO campaign and your boss doesn’t know it, is it really a success? Maybe not! Make sure your boss sees your success by sending them a monthly report. This week, I recorded a video explaining how to create a simple (but effective) monthly report for your boss using Google Data Studio.

Don’t undervalue this important step in an SEO campaign. Setup a monthly report early in order to:

  1. Prove your efforts are working.
  2. Prove your time is well-spent.
  3. It’s better to start with a early report with small numbers and show the growth over time. If you wait to start a report until later, the results will be less impressive. In other words: although the numbers might be small, as you get started, you have more potential to show impressive gains. These gains are harder to come by later in a more mature SEO campaign.
  4. Keep the focus on actual results (goal completions). If you don’t, your boss will end up creating slippery, hard to measure metrics (like “rank”) that distract from the real goal of an SEO campaign: new customers.

As with some items in the SEO process, I recommend you get started with things like this before you start your optimization efforts. You’ll be glad you did, later!
