Updates for the week ending 6/7/2024

There are so many updates recently-but I did update the monthly report template. If you’re using the report, you might need to make some manual updates yourself.

I updated the monthly report template in Looker Studio. Recently Google made a change in Google Analytics- they’re now calling “conversions”, “key events.” It’s not as important to understand why they made this change- just remember that (whatever you call them) this is the whole point of any marketing campaign. What good is “rank” or “traffic” if it’s not producing customer leads or sales?

To account for this change, I had to update the metrics in the monthly report.

However, IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A REPORT CREATED you might need to re-add your GA4 data source to Looker Studio for this to work. To update your data source, do the following:

1. Go to your Looker Studio report and click the blue “Edit” button at the top.
2. Find the Resources in the top menu and select “Manage added data sources”
3. Next to your GA4 property click the “Edit” link (next to the pencil icon).
4. At the top of this page you will see “Edit connection”. Press that.
5. Confirm that this is the GA4 property you want to use and click the blue “Reconnect” button.
6. Accept all the dialogs and you should return to your report- with the new metrics active.
7. Check every chart to make sure it’s reporting the data you expect and reporting correctly- especially charts that include conversion or key metrics.

As always, with Looker Studio, it can be a little buggy. Try to refresh your browser or data if things don’t seem to work right. Sometimes I simply had to delete a chart and create a new one (tip: sometimes it’s easier to simply copy and paste an existing chart and modify its metrics and dimensions).
